If you need a healthy snack to fuel you for the expressive arts show come along to the HFT DEPARTMENT on Tuesday from 5pm onwards.

S1 Pupils - Outward Bound Trip Payment
There are still a number of pupils still to pay their £65 for the Outward Bound trip. This instalment was actually due on Monday and is now overdue. Please hand in your payment to the school office as soon as possible. You must see Mr Wyllie or your guidance teacher if you think that you will have a problem getting this money in to the school office before the end of this week. Letters about the final payment will be issued shortly.

The Health Opportunities Team Gilmeron Health Drop In
The Health Opportunities Team Gilmerton health Drop-in is on every Wednesday evening between 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Gilmerton Community Centre. The Drop in is a free and confidential service, where young people aged 12-25 can access advice, support and information on all health issues, including sexual health.  Pop in to say hi, join in the activities or stay to get some 1 to 1 advice – it’s your choice.

House Captain and Vice House Captain Meeting
There will be a House Captain and Vice House Captain meeting in Mr Reid’s room on Wednesday 8th of February at lunchtime. Pupils should arrive no later than 13.05 and you can bring your lunch along.

Rights Respecting School Award Pupil Group
The Rights Respecting School Award pupil group is looking for extra members. If you would like to be a Rights Champion for the school please contact Mr Whale to add your name to the group.

LEAPS Summer School

For LEAPS-eligible students who are holding one or more UCAS offers and would like to strengthen their chances of university entry and experience university study.

Key Dates:

Summer School will run from Friday 2 June – Friday 21 July 2017 at various locations throughout Edinburgh.

Deadline for registering interest: 5pm Friday 17 March 2017

(Registering interest form open online now – students who register interest will be contacted when applications open online in mid-March.)

Deadline for completed applications: 5pm Friday 31 March 2017

(Full application form will open online in mid-March.)

LEAPS S5 Conference

For LEAPS-eligible S5 students who are aiming for university or college.

Wednesday 22 March 2017 5-8pm at the University of Edinburgh

The Careers Adviser Kay Hannah will be available in the school library at lunch-time on Tuesdays - no appointment necessary. Kay can support you:

Water Sports Trip – June 2018
PE and Modern Languages are organising a Water Sports Trip to Spain in June 2018.

Anyone interested should attend a meeting in Miss. Davies room during break time on Monday.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
The PE department are collecting Active Kids Vouchers again this year.  Please encourage parents/carers to take these when offered if they shop at Sainsbury’s.  Vouchers can be handed to your registration or PE teacher.

Girls Rugby Opportunity
There will be an outside coach coming in next Thursday straight after school for some rugby training with the hope for some games in the near future. All girls are welcome along whether you have been to training before or not. This is a fantastic opportunity so please come along if you're at all interested. Please see Miss Cox for details.

Bake Sale
The S5/S6 Volunteering class will be holding a Bake Sale at break on Wednesday 8th February to raise money for Cancer Research.  As well as cakes and refreshments, we will be selling raffle tickets during registration all next week.  We would be grateful for your support.

S5 pupils - Nuffield Research Placement Scheme
The Nuffield Research Placement Scheme is aimed at current 5th year students who will be sitting their Highers in 2017 and who are studying any Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Maths (STEM) subjects at that level (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Geography, Computing, Home Economics/Food Technology, Psychology, Music Technology, Product Design, Technological Studies etc.).

The placements help increase confidence and improve key skills including practical, communication, report-writing and presentation skills. It also provides students with excellent experiences & skills to include on CV’s and personal statements. By working with professional scientists and engineers in a real-life environment, the students gain an invaluable insight into a wide variety of careers.

Expressive Arts Show
Tickets for this year’s Expressive Arts Show on 7 February are now on sale in the library.

The show includes a fashion show, dance, music, tap, gymnastic performances as well as photography and art exhibitions.

Adults tickets are £3 and child tickets £1.50. refreshments will be provided.
